Shrewsbury Croquet Club was  founded in 1983.

It began courtesy of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, who let us use an old double lawn tennis court at Monkmoor Recreation Centre. The club acquired a small amount of equipment with the help of the Sports Council.

The club’s 13 members were lacking in experience and knowledge of the game but had an abundance of enthusiasm.

The first big leap forward came in 1987. A new inner ring road was to carve through the club’s section of the Monkmoor Recreation Centre. The council had obtained the adjacent school playing fields,  and were persuaded to construct  two new croquet lawns.

In 2012, after 24 season’s usage new lawns were laid. Ground levelling techniques involving the use of lasers, developed since the original lawns were put down, were employed.  After consultation with Wimbledon and the sport’s governing body, the Croquet Association, a special type of turf was selected.  The club can therefore claim to have the finest of playing surfaces.  So why not take advantage of a free taster session. Expert one to one coaching. All the equipment is provided. All you need is a pair of flat soled shoes such as trainers.  Arrange it now . .  phone the club secretary, Barbara Edwards,  01743 761237

Competitive activities include inter club matches, (both Federation League  and National competitions), and a variety of internal competitions in forms varying to suit members of different standards, tastes and competitive aspirations.
